I’m Sam — a sailor with a strong competitive mindset and a passion for high-performance sailing.
I’ve been sailing since I was 12, and over the years I’ve built experience across racing, deliveries, boatyard work, maintenance and general deck operations. My main role on the racecourse has been bow, where speed, consistency, communication and staying calm under pressure are some of the few skills reaquired for this position.
I’m at my best in an environment where there is always something to learn. I enjoy being surrounded by experienced sailors and strong teams because I see every day on the water as an opportunity to learn and improve — whether that means refining my sail handling, learning a new system, understanding boat preparation or simply becoming a better teammate.
My goal is to build a career in professional sailing and progressively move towards higher-level racing. I want to compete on increasingly demanding boats and teams, develop my technical and sailing skills, and eventually become a versatile professional sailor capable of contributing wherever the boat needs me. I’m willing to do whatever is necessary to prepare and fully commit to the demands of a competitive racing programme.
On the water, I’m highly focused and competitive. I take racing seriously, stay composed under pressure, and remain fully committed to the job at hand and executing the task to the best of my ability. I take criticism seriously and try to turn it into improvement rather than taking it personally. I’m comfortable working hard, adapting to different boats and environments, and taking responsibility when something needs to get done.
Away from the boat, I’m calm, easy to work with, friendly, patient and hardworking, with a strong focus on getting things done properly in an orderly manner. In my downtime I like to be in nature, take walks, read and chat with likeminded people.
In my downtime away from racing, I’m interested in developing my maritime qualifications. Ideally, I’ll do enough racing that I won’t have much time for that.
I want to build a career defined by commitment, progression, and the people I have the opportunity to sail alongside. I’m excited by the challenge of seeing how far I can take my sailing and what I can achieve through consistent work and pushing my limits.
